Merlene Discusses Her Strengths and Weaknesses and Where She Would Like To Be Five Years From Now

TAMMY: So my first question is – How bad do you want to be a Stylette?

MERLENE: Really bad, Tammy. It’s something I’ve always wanted to be. A Stylette, I mean. I’ve just always known that I should be a Stylette.

TAMMY: What is it about your personality that makes you a Stylette?

MERLENE: Just everything. Just everything about my personality. I’ve just always loved all those…you know…all those things that you smear on your face? And I just think that I could sell them. As a Stylette.

TAMMY: Well, first of all, the Stylettes do not sell personal care products. We are the Stylettes, and when people meet us, they like us so much that they just want to purchase these products so they can be more like us. So if we choose you to be a Stylette, why would women want to be like you?

MERLENE: Because…because I’m polite, I’ve very loyal, and I like to drink a lot.

TAMMY: Yes, but why do you really want to be a Stylette?

MERLENE: Well… During the last eight months that I’ve been out of work, I’ve just been doing a lot of thinking, and every day I’ve been thinking that I should really be getting out of the house. As a Stylette. I mean I really want to get out of the house as a Stylette.

TAMMY: Good, that’s real good, Merlene, that’s exactly what we’re here for. Now I want you to look right at me, Merlene, and say straight from your heart: “It’s not a cream, it’s not a gel.”

MERLENE: Right now?

TAMMY: Yes, right now.

MERLENE: It’s not a cream, it’s not a gel.

TAMMY: That’s no good. I don’t believe you.

MERLENE: But it’s true.

TAMMY: It has to be more than true, Merlene. It has to be fabulous. Because in your heart you know that the Stylette’s washes, fruit peels, mists, and rain-waters are not creams or gels.

MERLENE: They’re not?

TAMMY: No. So let’s try it again. Straight from your heart.

MERLENE: Straight from my heart. It’s not a cream or a gel.

TAMMY: Yes, yes, much better. Did it feel better?

MERLENE: It did, it felt so much better.

TAMMY: Good. Now let’s look at your application. I see you’ve only listed 23 of your friends by name. We asked you to list all your friends.

MERLENE: Those are all my friends. Including about seven or eight people that I really never want to see again.

TAMMY: You do understand that you’re going to have to double this list by Friday.

MERLENE: Absolutely. No problem. I joined a rugby team this morning.

TAMMY: Thank you. That’s what I’m talking about. Now what kind of moisturizer do these girls use?

MERLENE: While they’re playing? It’s not allowed. You can’t get any foreign substance on the ball.

TAMMY: No, not the rugby girls. I mean your 23 friends.

MERLENE: It’s actually only about eleven.

TAMMY: Whatever. What kind of moisturizer do they use.

MERLENE: Well they don’t usually seem that moist…to me.

TAMMY: What?

MERLENE: Well I’m sure they don’t use the Stylettes.

TAMMY: No kidding. Of course they don’t use the Stylettes. They’re losers. But as a Stylette, you would have the power to change that.

MERLENE: I would?

TAMMY: Absolutely. Because you would be able to hold a house party and invite them in groups of five to eight, tell them your story of how you discovered the Stylettes and how the Stylettes personal care products have changed everything about your life.

MERLENE: And then they would buy the Stylettes personal care products from me?

TAMMY: Yes, and…..

MERLENE: And they would be so excited about the Stylettes washes, fruit peels, mists, and rain-waters that they would want to join the Stylettes and then I would get a percentage of all their future sales.

TAMMY: Yes. Exactly. You get it, Merlene. You absolutely get it. You’re going to be our best Stylette ever.

MERLENE: You mean I’m hired?

TAMMY: Yes! Congratulations! Now all your need is your sample kit and you’ll be ready to hold your first house party.

MERLENE: Thank you so much. This is wonderful. How do I get the sample kit?

TAMMY: That’ll be four hundred and ninety-five dollars.
