Jerry is a writer of plays, sketches, and jokes, as well as a longtime citizen activist and employed person. His very short plays THANK YOU FOR APPLYING and SAUTE YOUR FACE were recently produced by the Brooklyn Playwrights Collective at the Brecht Forum, the Greek Cultural Center, and Galapogos Artspace. His earlier one-act play HISTORY ENDS HERE was produced by the Workshop Theater Company. Included in his ten full-length plays are HALF BAKED, produced by the Story People, MAN OVERBOARD, produced by High Five Productions, and the comedy revues NATIONAL LUNCH and WHAT'S SO FUNNY? (co-author) presented by Brooklyn Playworks and Manhattan Punch Line Theatre respectively. He has contributed to the McSweeney's web site, and his play WEATHERMAN was published by Samuel French Inc. During the 1990s, Jerry wrote material for stand-up comics, including one entire joke sold to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
As a mere school boy, Jerry helped to organize the New York Public Interest Research Group on his college campus and later volunteered with NYPIRG to wage the Bank on Brooklyn campaign, fighting against redlining by local banks. He also volunteered for the Financial Democracy Campaign, the Alliance for Democracy, New York Jobs with Justice, and more recently, Citizen Action of New York.
